Map of Schools

With a simple seismograph in the classroom, students, regardless of their geographic location, can watch as earthquakes are being recorded and can analyze data from their seismograph and from other schools to determine the magnitude and locations of earthquakes.  The EarthScope Seismographs In Schools (SIS) program, funded by the National Science Foundation, supports teachers' use of educational seismographs and seismic data in the classroom.

The EarthScope Education & Outreach (E&O) program, in collaboration with the seismological and educational communities, develops and implements programs designed to enhance seismology and Earth Science education in K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and in adult education.
