Dear Deep Earth Community,

IASPEI in Kobe will offer 5 sessions related to deep Earth structure which will be augmented by a deep Earth focused workshop nearby along the Seto Inland Sea.

IASPEI sessions: (1-2 days during the week of July 30-Aug 4)
Transition Zone - convener Tine Thomas - invited speaker Nick Schmerr
Mid Mantle - convener Christine Houser - invited speakers Jun Tsuchiya, Maxim Ballmer, Izumi Mashino
CMB Region - convener Allen McNamara - speaker TBA
Outer Core - convener George Helffrich - invited speaker Satoshi Kaneshima
Inner Core - convener Hrvoje Tkalcic - speaker TBA

February 8th is the abstract deadline: http://www.iag-iaspei-2017.jp/abstract_submission.html

The workshop is still under development, but will be a collaboration between the Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) at Tokyo Institute of Technology and the Geodynamics Research Center at Ehime University. There will likely be some funds available for travel so contact me if you are interested (chouser<at>elsi.jp). The exact location has not been decided, but the plan is to meet for a couple of days somewhere along the coast of the Seto Inland Sea before the IASPEI meeting (i.e. late July). Those who receive funding will likely be expected to spend some time at the funding institution (ELSI or GRC).

Please join us for many Deep discussions!

Christine Houser
