Hi Anthony-

In conjunction with polling to the metadatachange service to check for (important) changes in metadata, you can look into using SOD to give you the same kind of capability as WILBER, but in an automated way. SOD can be configured to access FDSN web services at any center of your choice, though it defaults to FDSN for events and IRIS for data/metadata IIRC.

Also note that there is a SOD mailing list that you can use to ask for help. The link can be found on the SOD home page.

Naturally, this won't give you the capacity for hand-selection and tuning, so if you need something like that, you might want to approach the USGS or ISC to suggest a picking tool. Maybe someone else on this mailing list can suggest something.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the information.

It sounds like I need to regenerate my event waveform database!

I created it by hand from Wilbur with somewhat complex settings like; certain large events, certain networks (IU, II, G, ...), 1 station every 1 degree then hand select all or most stations at < 20deg, ...

What do you suggest is the best IRIS tool to do this or something similar automatically?

If I only have miniseed volumes, might the meta-data change again in the future?

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Anthony-

We do have a metadatachange service, but that has only been active since 2017. I think the location code changes you are observing occurred years earlier.

We do not keep versions of metadata changes in our database that can be recalled later.

Hello

I have 10+ years of miniseed volumes with event data from IRIS Wilbur.
I have automated procedures to obtain station/channel gain and coordinate metadata based on the NetStaLocChan identifiers in the miniseed.
These procedures fail to get results from service.iris.edu/fdsnws http://service.iris.edu/fdsnws for some stations/channels, for example:
http://service.iris.edu/fdsnws/station/1/query?net=IU&sta=KMBO&loc=--&cha=BHZ&starttime=1999-08-17&endtime=1999-08-17&level=channel

I think that the problem is that at some time in the past few years the location codes for the stations were changed, for example the channel above now shows up in MDA as:
<5xMCeLN1GJNMyhyz.png>
http://ds.iris.edu/mda/IU/KMBO/?starttime=1995-09-17&endtime=2599-12-31

so the old location "--" (from 2011) is now either 00 or 10.

Is there any procedure or work-around to get metadata for a channel as it was identified in the past?

Thanks,

Anthony
