The Department of the Geophysical Sciences at The University of Chicago invites applications for the T.C. Chamberlin Postdoctoral Fellowship. We seek outstanding scientists who lead creative investigations into the nature and evolution of the Earth and/or other planetary bodies—including their physics, biology, chemistry, climate, and history—and who have a desire to participate in the broad intellectual life of the department and the university. We encourage people with interests in any aspect of Earth and Planetary Sciences to apply. To give a sense of the diverse interests of our Chamberlin Fellows, in recent years they have carried out investigations of planetary habitability, tropical cyclones, paleontology, planetary dynamics, and geochemistry.
Start date is negotiable, with a target of September 1, 2023. The initial term of the Fellowships will be one year, renewable for a second year. The Fellowship comes with a competitive salary plus benefits as well as independent research funds. James Madison University (JMU) invites applications for Phase 2 of an exciting collaborative environmental data science (EDS) cohort hire. The cohort hires will consist of four tenure-track faculty at rank of assistant or associate professor who will work collaboratively across disciplines to develop undergraduate curricula and research programs at the intersection of data science, climate science, and environmental analytics. One or more of the four positions could be teacher-scholar post-doctoral appointments. Successful candidates will possess the expertise, creative ability, interdisciplinary problem-solving skills, and team-oriented work ethic to establish JMU as a home for environmental data science curricula and research. Given that many of the challenges facing the environment differentially affect particular populations of humans, a critical component of this cohort would be the integration of social justice into curricula and research initiatives.
Successful candidates will have primary appointments in an academic unit most aligned with their disciplinary focus. These include Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geology and Environmental Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and Astronomy in the College of Science and Mathematicshttps://www.jmu.edu/csm/index.shtml (CSM), as well as Computer Science, Engineering, Geography, and Integrated Science and Technology in the College of Integrated Science and Engineeringhttps://www.jmu.edu/cise/index.shtml (CISE).
