Bruce
Weertman, Software Engineer -- Real Time Systems
Bruce
will be developing tools and applications to monitor the quality
of the real time data flowing into and from the IRIS DMC. Before
working at IRIS Bruce was a programmer with the Seattle based software
company WRQ where he worked on a website monitoring program and
PC to UNIX connectivity software. He received a Ph.D. from the University
of Washington's Geophysics program in 1993. His thesis involved
radio echo sounding of Antarctic Ice Sheets.
"After
working on commercial software for seven years, it's great to be
back in the world of science. For fun I'm into amateur astronomy,
teaching kids about science, running, skiing, backpacking and best
of all, playing with my two boys. I run a local section of the International
Dark-Sky Association and I'm working on preserving the view of the
Milky Way in the Northwest through public education about bad outdoor
lighting and by helping communities adopt effective outdoor lighting
codes."
