Earthscope/USArray Imaging Science & CIG Seismology Workshop
Washington University St. Louis Conference Center
October 31-November 2, 2006
This workshop is going to review details of forward modeling methods
for teleseismic data and direct imaging methods that make use of
teleseismic data. Since forward modeling is an essential part of
formal seismic inversion methods, the workshop will focus on forward
and inverse modeling methods. Several forward modeling methods for 1-
D and 3-D Earth structures are being prepared for community
distribution under the auspices of CIG. A number of direct imaging
methods are being used to make images of the lower crust, the upper
mantle, and CMB structures from receiver functions or the elastic
wavefield.
We intend to have a day of technical presentations followed by a day
and a half of tutorials. The tutorials will be designed to illustrate
use of the CIG forward modeling tools, and to address aspects of
seismic image formation using migration/inversion methods.
This is the third of five USArray Imaging Science workshops and the
second CIG Seismology workshop.
We strongly encourage attendance by senior graduate students and post-
docs.
Attendance will be limited to 40 participants. Hotel, per diem, and
partial travel costs will be reimbursed.
