Summary:
This individual will primarily be responsible for operating,
monitoring, and maintaining the data management systems for seismic,
strain, and ancillary data from PBO borehole strainmeter stations, in
collaboration with the PBO Strainmeter Operations and Data Management/
Information Technology (DMIT) Groups and staff of the IRIS Data
Management Center (IRIS DMC) and Northern California Earthquake
Center (NCEDC).
Essential Job Functions:
• Works with PBO DMIT and Strainmeter Operations groups to configure,
operate, and maintain BRTT Antelope software to manage data flow from
PBO strainmeter stations to the PBO data centers and from there to
archives at the IRIS DMC and NCEDC.
• Works with PBO Strainmeter Operations and DMIT groups, and IRIS DMC
and NCEDC staff, to develop the necessary metadata and data flow as
new stations are installed and become available.
• Monitors the PBO strainmeter network, including daily quality
checking of all PBO stations and providing reports on network status
as required by PBO Strainmeter Data Manager and Data Products Manager.
• Works with PBO Strainmeter Operations and DMIT groups and archive
staff to resolve problems with stations.
• Develops new automated tools for reporting and querying the
database for strainmeter station data management, and supports the
planning process for archive hardware resource usage and upgrades.
• Advises PBO Strainmeter Data Manager and Data Products Manager on
issues related to PBO seismic and strainmeter data management system.

Skills and Knowledge:
• Good UNIX experience with Solaris, Linux, and/or Mac OS X,
including computer operations, network security, and applications
programs. Microsoft Windows experience beneficial.
• Good working knowledge of UNIX programming and scripting tools,
such as C/C++, Perl, Python, and shell scripts.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle databases.
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
• Willingness to travel when needed.
Desirable
• Knowledge of Internet-based network communications via satellite,
wireless, and wired systems.
• Experience with use of the BRTT Antelope software suite for seismic
data management.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physical Science or
Computer Science
• A minimum of two years data management or related experience, or
• M.S. and one year experience, or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.
