Seismologist: Data Analyst and Operations Specialist
The Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at the Scripps
Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) seeks a Data Analyst and
Operations Specialist to monitor and maintain real-time data flow for
multiple seismic networks using Antelope software. Maintain local and
remote databases containing site and station parameters. Educate
others on the use of real-time data collection and post-processing
software. Review seismic data and automatic earthquake locations.
Provide maps and additional graphics for scientific publications.
Disseminate information regarding local or noteworthy earthquakes via
automated web displays. Set up data acquisition systems at remote
field sites.
Qualifications:
Advanced theoretical knowledge of seismology and geophysics or degree
in Geophysics, Earth Science, Computer Science or related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of relational databases. In particular,
knowledge of Datascope and the ANTELOPE software package.
Demonstrated knowledge of C-Shell, PERL, and TCL scripting, proven
knowledge of UNIX on Sun workstations, Mac OSX.
Proven experience analyzing seismic waveform data from earthquakes
from large data sets of broadband and strong motion data.
Skills & Abilities:
Must be able to work as part of a team. Knowledge of modern seismic
instrumentation is desirable as well as a hight level of initiative.
Special Conditions:
Ability to travel on short notice. Valid California Driver's license.
Current passport. Valid visa if non-US citizen.
