Assistant Professorship – Tenure-Track
UNC-Chapel Hill
Geodesy / Seismotectonics / Geodynamics
The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track
faculty position in the areas of geodynamics, seismotectonics or
geodesy. We seek candidates whose interests lie in understanding
regional to continental scale active tectonics, crust-mantle
interaction, viscous and fluid flow in the mantle and crust, orogenic
processes, and the origin and evolution of stress in the
lithosphere. We encourage application of candidates with experience
in geodynamical data acquisition and analysis, including the use of
InSAR, GPS, seismology, and potential fields, as well as those whose
interests lie in numerical modeling of geodynamic processes.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and
postdoctoral and teaching experience is highly desirable. The
successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous,
externally funded research program and to demonstrate excellence in
teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Applicants must submit a letter of application, names, addresses, e-
mail and phone numbers of four references, statements of teaching and
research interests, and their vitae to Chair, Search Committee for
Geodynamics, Department of Geological Sciences, University of North
Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3315.
The deadline to receive letters of application is December 20,
2006. Members of the Department will be present at the AGU meeting
in San Francisco. Please contact Patricia Bigelow
