Title: STRAINMETER FIELD ENGINEER I
Status: Full Time Regular

Summary:
This individual will be a member of the UNAVCO PBO group and work
with the Strainmeter installation team. This individual will assist
in all aspects of strainmeter construction activities and assist with
reconnaissance, permitting, and maintenance of strainmeter stations
as well as monitoring and logging drilling operations.
Essential Job Functions:
• Assists PBO strainmeter engineer in the construction of borehole
strainmeter stations and other instrumentation activities:
Strainmeter station site reconnaissance, selection, permitting,
installation activities, and maintenance
• Assists the PBO strainmeter engineer in resolving any issues
arising during the construction of a site. When needed, works as a
resource for GPS installations in other PBO regions.
• Identifies, troubleshoots and solves technical issues related to
hardware, software, data communications, equipment, and logistics
related to BSM stations.
• Generates and tracks detailed technical documentation for station
installation, maintenance and repair. Enters and validates data in
the PBO database.
• Provides feedback on the design, fabrication, integration, testing,
documentation and repair of hardware and software necessary to
support strainmeter installations.
Other Job Functions:
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful
operation of the business.

Skills and Knowledge:
• Physical stamina to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and repeatedly
• Exposure to electronics, power systems, data acquisition and IP
based communications equipment
• Experience or strong desire to work for extended periods at remote
locations in the cold, heat, wind, rain and snow
• Knowledge of standard personal computer software including word
processors, spreadsheets, e-mail, Internet, and web interfaces
• Good oral and written communication skills in English
• Skills in the safe use of hand and power tools
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time, including travel
outside of assigned region and to Canada
• Valid driver’s license
• Must have a "satisfactory" driving record and be insurable on
UNAVCOs auto insurance policy
Education and Experience
• Bachelor of Science degree Geophysics, Geology, Engineering, or
similar field
• Minimum two years experience in construction, construction
management, field geology, engineering, surveying, or other relevant
technical experience.
