Summary:
This individual is a member of UNAVCO PBO group that will work with  
the regional staff in all aspects of GPS and strainmeter activities.  
This individual will assist with reconnaissance, permitting,  
installation, and maintenance of GPS and strainmeter stations.
Essential Job Functions:
• Works with regional staff in all aspects of GPS and strainmeter  
activities which includes GPS permanent station site reconnaissance,  
selection, permitting, installation activities, maintenance, and data  
flow.
• Resolves any issues arising within the network
• When needed, works as a resource for GPS and strainmeter  
installations in other PBO regions.
• Identifies, troubleshoots and solves technical issues related to  
hardware, software, data communications, equipment, and logistics for  
regional office.
• Generates and tracks detailed technical documentation for station  
installation, maintenance and repair.
• Provides feedback on the design, fabrication, integration, testing,  
documentation and repair of hardware and software necessary to  
support GPS continuous station and strainmeter installations.
• Acts as an ambassador for UNAVCO when briefing potential private  
landowners on behalf of PBO.
• Acts as the “Engineer in Charge” in GPS installation projects, and  
can be the main point of contact between the drilling crew and PBO.
Other Job Functions:
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful  
operation of the business.

Skills and Knowledge:
Required

• Exposure to electronics, welding, land surveying, or data acquisition.
• Experience or strong desire to work for extended periods at remote  
locations in the cold, heat, wind, rain and snow.
• Knowledge of standard personal computer software including word  
processors, spread sheets, e-mail, Internet, and web interfaces.
• Exposure to GPS, telecommunications, and power systems.
• Good oral and written communication skills in English.
• Skills in the safe use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time, including travel  
outside of assigned region.
• Valid driver’s license and a UNAVCO-insurable driving record.
• Physical stamina to lift over 50 pounds frequently and repeatedly.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in field geology or engineering

• A minimum of one year experience in construction, construction  
management, field geology, engineering, surveying, or other relevant  
technical experience.
