The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) seeks a  
scientist with managerial and research experience to lead the USArray  
component of the EarthScope project (www.earthscope.org). The  
preferred candidate will have a PhD in Earth Sciences and five or  
more years experience leading complex research or facilities programs  
in academia, related government agencies or industry

The USArray Director will be responsible for working with existing  
IRIS core programs and USArray staff to ensure the success of the  
USArray. The Director will be responsible for coordinating and  
encouraging interactions with NSF and other components of EarthScope,  
including related federal and state programs.   Additionally, the  
Director will: monitor operations and expenditures of USArray and  
report progress to NSF; develop annual plans and budgets for  
presentation to NSF; stimulate and encourage optimum and innovative  
use of USArray facilities; develop and make presentations to  
publicize the capabilities and results of USArray; and participate in  
the development of interdisciplinary research projects through  
organizing and participating in workshops and through contacts with  
individual investigators. Extensive travel is required. The position  
will be located in Washington D.C.
