University of Utah Seismograph Stations: Postdoctoral Research
Position in Seismology

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations (UUSS) invites
applications for a full-time postdoctoral research position in
seismology, available now until filled. We seek a scientist with an
interest in research topics that, at least in part, should utilize
data collected in the Utah region by a modern regional/urban seismic
network (currently augmented state-wide by Transportable Array
stations of EarthScope’s USArray). Information about UUSS and our
seismic network, a regional element of the Advanced National Seismic
System, can be found at http://seis.utah.edu/. Possible areas of
investigation include earthquake and seismicity studies, source
analyses, local and regional structure, modeling and prediction of
strong ground motion, studies of non-standard sources and
discrimination, and methodologies relating to real-time seismology.
In addition to research on these or other topics, the successful
candidate will be expected to routinely participate, on a limited
basis (approx. 10–12 hours per week), in day-to-day operations of the
UUSS network, contributing to quality control, earthquake monitoring
and reporting, and post-earthquake response.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Geophysics/Seismology at the time of
appointment. This position is initially for one year, with the
possibility of extension depending on progress and the availability
of funding. Annual salary ($40,000 to $50,000) depending on
experience, plus health and retirement benefits. Applicants should
submit a personal statement describing research experience and
interests, a brief description of how he/she proposes to utilize
seismological data being collected in the Utah region, a curriculum
vita, and the names and contact information for three references to:
