Dear Colleagues,

We would like to inform you that we are convening a session titled,
"Geodynamic implications of mantle heterogeneity" (EID-08) at
the International Geological Congress (IGC) 2008 Oslo (August 6-14,
2008 in
Oslo). The deadline for abstract submission is 1 February, 2008. We
would like
to encourage you to participate and to submit your recent research work
on
mantle heterogeneity at the IGC. The session description is as follows:

Geodynamic implications of mantle heterogeneity

Convenors: George Helffrich (University of Bristol, UK), Louise Kellogg
(University of California, Davis, USA), Paul Tackley (ETH Zurich,
Switzerland)

This session covers the processes that create, change and destroy
compositional
heterogeneity in the mantle and how they shape the mantle's evolution.
We
invite observers and modellers of heterogeneity to present research
results
that yield insights into the physical processes that embed
heterogeneity in
the mantle rocks we sample at the surface or we detect at depth and
the nature of that heterogeneity. We encourage workers in seismology,
high
pressure mineral physics, petrology, geochemistry and geodynamical
modelling
to contribute.

Deadline for abstract submission is 1 February, 2008.
