Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Seismology (vacancy ref. 13006)
We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated person to be part
of a team working on a seismological investigation of the crust and
mantle beneath Hudson Bay, Canada. The aim of the experiment is to
test models of the evolution of intra-cratonic basins and the
formation of continental roots. Seismic stations will be deployed
around the northern edge of Hudson Bay and will compliment existing
seismic networks in the region. The experiment is part of a large
international collaboration, which involves seven institutions from
three countries. You will be expected to deploy and service seismic
stations in remote locations and you will be responsible for
archiving and processing the seismic dataset. The project involves
the analysis of teleseismic data to determine the velocity structure
and anisotropy of the crust and mantle and you will be expected to
have experience handling and processing such data. This will involve
the coordination of various components of teleseismic data analysis;
for example, travel-time tomography, SKS splitting, receiver
functions and surface waves. It is expected that you will bring
expertise to the project in one or more of these techniques.
