IRIS has an immediate opening for an education and outreach  
specialist in support of EarthScope, an NSF-funded national research  
and education project dedicated to exploring the structure and  
evolution of the North American continent.  This position will be  
primarily responsible for providing scientific content to general and  
educational audiences to highlight the contributions made by  
EarthScope, with a focus on USArray.  The position will be based at  
IRIS headquarters in Washington, DC.

The USArray E&O Specialist will be a primary content provider for  
USArray/EarthScope education and outreach.  This individual will  
write articles, produce content for the EarthScope and USArray web  
pages and develop content for museum displays and other informal  
science displays.  The USArray E&O Specialist will travel to give  
workshops and make presentations, and to work with scientists,  
faculty, and E&O staff in developing scientific content for  
EarthScope’s educational and outreach materials.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of training and/or  
experience in: geoscience writing, formal or informal geoscience  
education, and seismology.  A graduate degree in geology, geophysics,  
science communication, or geoscience education, or equivalent  
experience, and excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills  
are required. The candidate must be able to work effectively and  
collegially with research scientists, teachers, and other educational  
partners.
