The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network has an opening for an  
Electronics Technician 2. The position will add to a team of  
engineering technicians with responsibility of digital and analog  
seismograph operation and telemetry maintenance, repair, design and  
deployment. The PNSN operates more than 200 seismographs in  
Washington and Oregon. Data from these stations are collected at the  
University of Washington via real-time telemetry. We seek a highly  
motivated individual who can work independently and with a minimum of  
direct supervision but in a highly coordinated fashion within a  
collegial team, both in the lab and the field. Work sites will range  
from our electronics shop at the University to off campus locations  
in Washington and Oregon.

Specific duties include: Diagnose problems, repair and calibrate  
amplifier/VCOs, discriminators, seismic recorders and displays. Build  
and or repair interconnecting cables, connectors and enclosures.  
Build and assemble masts, wiring and mounting hardware for antennas  
and solar panels. Build and repair electronic interface devices such  
as summing amps, power regulators, noise filters from design  
documents. Maintain accurate records of remote field site maintenance  
visits, instrument condition and inventory via written and computer  
entry system. Repair and calibrate or send for factory repair  
specialized lab test equipment. Diagnose, repair or arrange for  
vendor repair basic computer hardware such as keyboards, monitors,  
enclosures. Review station operation of remote analog stations and,  
in cooperation with a seismic analyst and engineering technicians,  
contact remote site technicians and coordinate their repair efforts.

Job requirements: One year of experience as an Electronics Technician  
1 OR Three years experience as an electronic technician OR equivalent  
education/experience. Must be proficient in the use of multi-meter,  
oscilloscope, and function generator, and in soldering. Because some  
sites are in remote locations and require carrying tools and  
equipment; the candidate should be able to pack a 50 lb. (22.5 kg)  
load at least ½ mi (.8 km) over rough terrain. Must be able to  
operate a state vehicle on a daily basis, which requires a valid  
driver’s license recognized by the State of Washington.
