On November 1, 2007, the White House announced the names of the
recipients of the 2006 Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists
and Engineers (PECASE) recipients. Among those honored is Matthew J.
Fouch, Arizona State University.
Each year NSF selects nominees for Presidential Early Career Awards
for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from among the most meritorious
new CAREER awardees. The PECASE program recognizes outstanding
scientists and engineers who, early in their careers, show exceptional
potential for leadership at the frontiers of knowledge. This
Presidential Award is the highest honor bestowed by the United States
Government on scientists and engineers beginning their independent
careers.
Matthew J. Fouch (Assistant Professor. School of Earth & Space
Exploration, Arizona State University) is recognized for developing
new approaches that integrate multiple seismic and geodetic data types
to better understand deformation of continental North America,
including public lectures, electronic media development, and field and
classroom training engaging a new and diverse generation of students
to appreciate the dynamic nature of the Earth. Matt is the first early
career scientist to receive a CAREER award from the EarthScope Program.
