Summary:
This individual will provide sustaining engineering to advance  
satellite geodetic technologies for Earth scientific applications.  
They will perform technology development and testing to improve the  
quality, timeliness and efficiency of scientific data.
Essential Job Functions:
• Design and develop plans and conduct testing to assess performance  
of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers and antennas  
and related equipment.
• Assess site characteristics that affect the accuracy of GNSS  
measurements, such as monument stability and electromagnetic effects,  
and help develop methodologies and practices to mitigate them,  
including antenna or in-situ phase calibrations, improved monument  
designs, antenna mounts and radomes.
• Evaluate effects of new GNSS observables, including evaluation of  
antenna standards, and help develop best practices for integrating  
the new GNSS observables as they become available.
• Assist with development of advanced station technologies, such as  
data communications systems, power systems, secure computer systems,  
download systems and hardened field systems, as required in  
supporting projects.
• Coordinate software and firmware acceptance testing, version  
control and maintain repository of commonly used software tools.
• Support the development, testing and documentation of data formats  
and conversion software.
• Consult with community members, equipment vendors and internal  
staff on technology issues and best practices.
• Participate in community working groups, workshops and technical  
meetings.
• Lead the development and maintenance of the engineering support  
section of the UNAVCO web site.
• Document all results to reports and the web and support writing  
reports for cooperative agreements, grants and other requirements.
• Participate in field work and other project support as assigned.
• Supervise assigned employees.

Skills and Knowledge:
• Advanced technical knowledge of GNSS technologies and error sources.
• Expert knowledge of high-precision GNSS applications through  
experience in one or more of the following areas: geology and  
geophysics, geodesy and global reference frames, high precision  
control surveying, equipment development and testing.
• Fluent in GNSS high precision data processing methodologies and a  
working knowledge of one of the commonly used GNSS data processing  
software suites such as GAMIT or GIPSY.
• Hands-on experience with equipment testing and test equipment,  
knowledge of common test standards, familiarity with environmental  
tests and a solid understanding of methods for analysis of test data.
• Working knowledge of UNIX and Windows computer operating systems,  
networking protocols, and at least one advanced scripting language.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, time  
management, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated team player.
• Project management experience or certification desired.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geophysics or similar field or  
equivalent experience required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
• A minimum of four years of relevant experience in GNSS  
applications, or equivalent education and experience
