The USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory (located in Vancouver, Washington
(USA)) is seeking to fill a field engineer position at the GS 11/12 level.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide expertise and support
for the data-telemetered monitoring programs at Cascades volcanoes and at
foreign volcanoes. Duties include: installing, maintaining, and designing
infrastructure for seismic and other geophysical instruments needed for
monitoring volcanoes in the Cascades and at foreign sites; and
establishing and maintaining radio (analog and digital), microwave,
satellite, and internet-based telemetry systems. The incumbent will need
to be comfortable working in remote and often harsh conditions that are
typically found in volcanic environments, and should anticipate being on
travel status roughly 20% of the time. Applicants with experience in
installing and maintaining networks of geophysical instruments in remote
environments with associated analog and digital telemetry systems for
transmitting data to processing centers in real-time are particularly
encouraged to apply.
For more information and/or to apply for this position go to
