Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University seeks  
applicants for one or more junior or mid-career Doherty Research  
Scientist positions in the field of Solid-Earth Dynamics.  Titles and  
levels of guaranteed salary support will be commensurate with  
seniority and qualifications.  Specific areas of interest include but  
are not limited to:
• Physics and dynamics of ductile and coupled brittle-ductile systems;
• Plate-boundary deformation and plate dynamics;
• Mantle convection, fluid and magma transport, and geochemical  
evolution of the crust and mantle.
Candidates with strong backgrounds in experimental rock mechanics,  
microstructure of deformed rocks, experimental petrology,  
geochemistry, satellite geodesy, marine geodesy, computational  
physics, and/or geophysical fluid/solid dynamics are encouraged to  
apply. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and/or  
interact with major observational programs and to foster the  
integration of theory with observation.

The minimum qualification is a Ph.D. in the relevant field, with at  
least one year of Post-Doctoral research experience.  Screening will  
commence in December, 2007 and continue until positions are filled.
