[iris-bulk] Portable Equipment User's Group

Over the last few years many of our member universities have acquired  
or are in the process of acquiring seismic recording equipment  
similar to that operated by PASSCAL.  This pool is reaching the size  
that it represents a significant resource as well as a significant  
responsibility  for the institutions.  The purpose of this email is  
to see if there is interest in creating an Equipment User's Group.   
The group would provide a forum for discussion of problems,  
interchange of information on both hardware and software as well as  
provide some
"leverage" when communicating with the manufacturers.

I would like to get an inventory of what equipment is currently in  
the community as well as any plans to purchase equipment in the near  
future.  I would appreciate any comments you may have as to whether  
you are interested in pursuing this  further and what you would want  
out of such an organization.  If there is enough interest I can see  
about getting a meeting room during AGU for some preliminary  
discussions.
