All,

Earth Science week is nearly upon us; October 14-20th, 2007. Knowing
that many geoscience departments use this week or month as an
opportunity to reach out to their local schools and communities, I
would like to directly your attention to resources that are available
to support your efforts. This year the theme of Earth Science week
is The Pulse of the Earth. In support of Earth Science week, IRIS
E&O has again featured a geophysics related activity in The Pulse of
Earth Science: Earth Science Activity 2007-08 School Year Calendar,
distributed by AGI ( http://www.earthsciweek.org/calendar/
index.html ). As in the past, the IRIS activity is featured in the
January page of the calendar. In this activity students use SeisMac
( http://www.suitable.com/tools/seismac.html ) to familiarize
themselves with the concept of a three-component seismogram and to
explore the abstract nature of seismograms through a kinesthetic
experience. A more detailed version of this activity, as well as
additional activities that can be used with students are available
from...

If you have any needs or questions about either resources for your
Earth Science Week outreach, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Wishes,
Michael
