VIRGINIA TECH
ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND EARTH SYSTEMS CLUSTER HIRE
The Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech is seeking to fill a
tenuretrack
position to start in the fall of 2008 in one of two focus areas:
1) Sedimentary basin analysis and characterization of fossil fuel
resources, with
emphasis on the areas of reflection and marine seismology, and high-
resolution
sequence stratigraphy.
2) Planetary surface and crustal processes related to dynamics of
environmental
change, including the areas of geomorphology, Quaternary research,
remote
sensing of surface processes, surface hydrology, and volcanology/
igneous petrology.
The position is at the assistant professor level, but outstanding senior
candidates are encouraged to inquire and apply. Rank will be
determined by the
qualifications of the successful applicant. To receive full
consideration, all
applicants must have: a Ph.D. degree in Geosciences or related
discipline at the
time of appointment; an active research program or, for new Ph.D.’s,
strong
promise for developing an active research program. Successful
candidates are
likely to have post-doctoral or previous faculty experience, where
appropriate;
capability for teaching effectiveness at both the graduate and
undergraduate
levels; experience with multi-disciplinary research collaborations.
Persons
appointed will have the following responsibilities: development and
maintenance
of an internationally recognized, externally funded, multi-
disciplinary research
program; active participation in the undergraduate and graduate
teaching mission
