Dear Colleagues:
We would like to draw your attention to a special session at the
upcoming Joint Assembly to be held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, on May
27-20. The theme of this assembly is "A Meeting of the Americas". We
believe that this theme provides a timely opportunity for scientists
working in North and South America to assess the geophysical and related
studies that have been carried out on the respective cratons that core
these continents, and to discuss future opportunities to build upon
that work, especially in South America. A copy of the session
description is given below.
Please note that the abstract deadline is March 5 (next Wednesday)
Best regards
Larry and Jesus
Session Description:
The cratonic lithosphere of North America has been the subject of
intense, systematic geophysical study for the past two decades.
Comparable studies have recently begun in South America. This session is
intended to compare the latest results and hemispheric perspectives on
the deep structure and evolution of these cratons, their associated
mobile belts and associated strategic resources. Results from active and
passive seismological investigations, especially deep refraction and
reflection surveys and teleseismic imaging experiments, are solicited.
Other essential geophysical observations of lithospheric structure, such
as MT sounding, are also welcome.
