The GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam (GFZ, Germany), organises 
annually International Training Courses on 'Seismology and 
Seismic Hazard Assessment'
(http://www.gfz-potsdam.de/portal/-?$part=CmsPart&docId=2137698).
The training courses provide theoretical fundamentals and 
practical training in applied seismology, especially for 
geoscientists and engineers from developing countries. The 
program is particularly useful for seismological station 
and network operators, data interpreters and those 
concerned with seismic zoning and hazard assessment. These 
postgraduate crash courses are part of the educational and 
training program of the UNESCO in the field of geosciences 
and disaster mitigation.

The 5-week training course 2008 will take place in Costa 
Rica at OVSICORI (http://www.ovsicori.una.ac.cr/), which 
belongs to the Universidad Nacional (UNA, Heredia, Costa 
Rica). According to the decision of the board of the GFZ 
there will be a special opportunity for young scientists 
and engineers from countries of Central America and the 
Caribbean to participate at the course. The course
