Title:
Mobile Real-Time Networks for Aftershock Warning and Study
Friday - June 6 10:15 to 11:15
Conveners (Paul Davis, Richard Allen, Marcos Alvarez)
This SIG is a forum for Investigators with an interest in mobile real
time networks for the primary purpose recording aftershocks using high
density seismic arrays. A review of current work and future directions
in this area will be solicited from participants with the aim of
assessing the feasibility of submitting a proposal to the Major Research
Instrumentation (MRI) Program of the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Although technical aspects of this initiative will be discussed, the
focus of the forum is to bring forward the compelling scientific
rational for recording near-real time data during aftershock sequences.
Participants are encouraged to bring no more than three PowerPoint
slides describing specific emergent technology related to real-time data
acquisition as well as their specific scientific application.
. 10:15 -- 10:25 - Paul Davis (Introduction , new development in data
acquisition and communications systems at UCLA, Center for Embedded
Network Sensing)
. 10:25 - 10:35 - Richard Allen (Scientific applications and
feasibility, a model for regional networks)
. 10:35 -- 10:45 - Marcos Alvarez (Deployment concept, existing
technology, cost estimates and recent examples of successful US
analogues)
. 10:45 -- 11:15 - Open discussion
Participants are encouraged to bring 1-2 slides describing project
ideas and potential research directions.
