Session Description:

Cenozoic evolution of the Eastern Mediterranean region has
comprised subduction of oceanic lithosphere, accretion of
continental fragments, and extensive lithospheric deformation.

The current deformation at the surface is known in increasing
detail, but our understanding of processes that operate and
have operated at depth is still very incomplete.

In this session we aim to bring together contributions from
seismic structure studies, analyses of seismic anisotropy,
seismotectonics, geodesy, geodynamics, structural geology,
geochemistry and other disciplines in order to review our
current understanding of the structure and dynamics of
the Mediterranean region, particularly of the Eastern
Mediterranean, as well as highlight new results and
models and new avenues of research.
