Dear Colleagues,

The LRSPS Workshop being held next week, September 18-19, in Colorado (http://www.iris.edu/hq/lrsps/
) will be the primary vehicle for designing a Long-Range Science Plan
for Seismology. However, many people with good ideas may not be able
to attend the workshop and even those who do attend may wish to
contribute further. Besides the forum (http://www.iris.edu/hq/lrsps/forum/
) that is being maintained on the IRIS website, we are inviting short
contributions that can be considered by the writing team following the
workshop and that will be posted on a web archive with the workshop
proceedings. Anyone may contribute, but contributions are limited to
one per author, with one page of text and one figure. We invite
contributions which:

- Outline fundamental science questions and challenges that should be
addressed in the next decade
- Point to the need for new or existing resources that are critical to
the future of seismology
- Emphasize important societal applications that should be pursued
- Describe an exciting development that could serve as a good example
of a new area that should be pursued

There will be no editing of the submitted documents, except for a
check for appropriateness. The document should be submitted as a
single pdf or Word document tolindsay at iris.edu (Subject Line: LRSPS
Contribution) by September 30 at the latest. The writing committee
will begin work immediately after the workshop, so the sooner your
document is submitted, the more effective it will be.
