It is envisioned to be a ?Flexi?-RAMP as a large fraction of the instrumentation would be used by the community in short-term experiments at any time. PIs would be required to rapidly demobilize and send equipment to the RAMP region when a large event occurs. At this one-day workshop we will develop the scientific objectives, the engineering interests, and the instrumentation needs of Flexi- RAMP. What are the important scientific targets both in the RAMP and Flexi modes of use? What type or types of instrumentation should be included and how many, 100 or 1000? The program will include short presentations designed to stimulate the discussion and ample time for discussion. The morning will focus on science and engineering goals and the afternoon on instrumentation and operations. All participants are encouraged to bring one or two slides to illuminate the discussion. Lunch will be provided. To participate in the workshop please contact Richard Allen (rallen at berkeley.edu ). The room block for SSA has been extended to the night of April 6 at the SSA rate. Please make your own hotel reservation. Following the approach used by the effective sac-help list, the irisdmc-help list is intended to provide a place for users to send questions related to the use of IRIS DMC tools and services. While DMC staff will be monitoring the list (and sometimes providing answers), it is our hope that experienced IRIS DMC users will help less experienced users of the community by answering their questions using irisdmc-help. By connecting experienced users with less experienced users we believe an effective method of having questions answered will emerge. Please sign up for the list at http://www.iris.washington.edu/mailman/listinfo/irisdmc-help and participate both by asking and answering questions. Washington, D.C. What: EarthScope Reception (http://www.earthscope.org/reception) Where: Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. When: April 29, 2009, 5:30 ? 8:00 PM The purpose of this community-sponsored event is to acknowledge and recognize the contributions of the National Science Foundation, its partners, and the numerous organizations and agencies throughout the government that have helped make the first five years of EarthScope such a resounding success. If you are a scientist, policymaker or other information consumer whose work benefits from EarthScope data, this is an excellent opportunity to express your appreciation directly to the individuals and organizations that have helped EarthScope in ways both large and small. In addition, an afternoon symposium, preceding the reception, is being planned to highlight EarthScope science results. A subsequent e-mail will provide further details and information will be posted on the EarthScope, IRIS, and UNAVCO websites as it becomes available. Please forward this to any of your colleagues who may be interested in attending this reception. NOTE: EarthScope Reception attendees may also want to plan their visit so they can participate in the 14th Annual Science-Engineering-Technology Congressional Visits Day, which takes place on April 28-29, 2009. The CVD is a two-day annual event that brings scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, and technology executives to Washington to raise visibility and support for science, engineering, and technology. More details can be found on the CVD web site at www.setcvd.org. We hope to see you in Washington, D.C., on April 29.
