From rob at iris.washington.edu Thu May 21 12:33:14 2009 From: rob at iris.washington.edu (Robert Casey) Date: Thu, 21 May 2009 12:33:14 -0700 Subject: [dhi-clients] DHI Server Transition - May 26th Message-ID: <2D891765-4BA3-482C-A2B8-87078DA97D9C@iris.washington.edu> DHI Server Transition - May 26th The IRIS DMC is consolidating its DHI services on a new machine and will attempt to switch all client connections to that new machine on Tuesday, May 26th at 10 AM PDT. What we will do on the 26th is redirect the dmc.iris.washington.edu Nameserver to point to this new machine for all data processing. The change should be very quick and should not affect most users of DHI clients, such as SOD, JWEED, and VASE. Those affected will be ones with long-lived persistent connections to such services as the BUD_DataCenter, which allows real-time data feeds. We will retire the old data services within a week of this switchover, so we ask our user community to please restart persistent DHI clients shortly after the May 26 switch. The new machine will be identified as 'dhiserv.iris.washington.edu'. Those with firewall restrictions will want to allow this hostname for their clients, much in the same way as they allowed connnections to dmc.iris.washington.edu. Clients will still make their initial (Nameserver) connections to dmc.iris.washington.edu and are then redirected to dhiserv, so support for both of these hostnames must be ensured. Tools like VASE and JWEED will not have to change their configuration to use the new servers. We will provide notifications on the dhi-servers and dhi-clients mailing lists as we progress through the upgrade phases. We expect little difficulty in having high availability during this transition, but users should be aware of the possibility of unexpected outages during the switchover period. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the performance and availability of our DHI services. -rec
