IRIS Teachers,

UCAR in Boulder, Colorado, is looking for teachers to help in
developing earthquake-related teaching resources. If you could
travel to Boulder for two weekends, this sounds like a great
opportunity to utilize the knowledge and expertise you've gained
through participation in the IRIS Seismographs in Schools program.

Cheers,
John

>Greetings,
>
>We would like to invite middle and high school Earth science
>teachers to participate in developing earthquake and
>seismology-related on-line learning materials. In particular we wish
>to develop activities that utilize an on-line tool called Rapid
>Earthquake Viewer (REV
><http://rev.seis.sc.edu/>http://rev.seis.sc.edu/). This tool
>provides access to data from recent earthquakes that includes a
>map-based view and data from seismograph stations around the world.
>The selected group will work together to develop and modify existing
>materials in the DLESE Teaching Boxes
><http://www.teachingboxes.org/>www.teachingboxes.org. Teaching
>Boxes are classroom-ready instructional units that were
>collaboratively created by teachers, scientists and designers, to
>utilize digital library resources more effectively to meet specific
>learning goals. The boxes contain materials that model scientific
>inquiry, and include data collection and analysis to engage students
>in the process of science. The materials (including the products of
>this workshop) are and will be freely available to educators.
>
>Two weekend workshops are planned to orient the group to the tools
>and tasks and to accomplish the materials development. The
>workshops will be held at the National Center for Atmospheric
>Research (NCAR) in Boulder in April and May. A stipend of $1000
>will be offered and meals (breakfast and lunch) will be provided.
>Lodging on the Saturday night of each weekend is available for those
>who wish to stay over in Boulder.
>
>If you would like to be considered for this project, please reply to
>Holly Devaul, <mailto:devaul at ucar.edu>devaul at ucar.edu and respond to
>the following short questionnaire. If you would like more
