Hi Dennis,

The optimal gain for your AS-1 is going to be unique to your station, 
depending on where your instrument is set up and the local noise 
conditions.  However, a value for the gain between 25-50 is ideal.  
Likely, you will need to experiment a bit to find your optimal setting. 
  Start with a setting such that the background noise is just visible.  
Over time, if your trace is too noisy, adjust the gain to a lower value.
