The Ocean Bottom Seismograph Instrument Pool will host a Special
Interest Group (SIG) Meeting at the 2014 IRIS Workshop. The SIG is
entitled "Increasing Seismometer Presence in the Oceans: Identification
of Scientific Needs."

The SIG will focus on soliciting input from the seismology community to
identify the key concerns and services that OBSIP should provide in the
future. OBSIP has recently expanded our instrument fleet and added
pressure gauges to many of the existing instruments. Recent community
experiments provide an opportunity for OBSIP to expand the OBS user base
and encourage use of OBS data. This SIG will give an overview of recent
changes in the OBSIP facility and focus on identifying the OBS
community's needs for the future.

All members of the scientific community are encouraged to attend. We
would also like to draw attention to another SIG at the IRIS Workshop
entitled "Real-time Seismic Data from the Oceans," organized by Gabi
Laske, Frederik Simons, and Guust Nolet.

The IRIS workshop will be held from June 8 - June 11, 2014 in Sunriver,
Oregon. Science highlight submissions are due by April 30th.
Registration for the IRIS workshop closes on May 16th. For more
information about the workshop, visit the IRIS workshop page at
