I am trying to use SAC DHI. When I use the command "load read_dhi" I get the following error:
Load Error: dlopen(/Path_to_SAC/sac2dhi/libdhi.so, 1): no suitable image found.  Did find:
        /Path_to_SAC/sac2dhi/libdhi.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture
 ERROR 1028: External command does not exist:

I am using SAC Version 101.2 and Mac OS X 10.6.3

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure, but "mach-o" suggests that the lib is for powerpc and you
are on an intel mac.

	We have a build for the Intel mac that you can download.  Please  
register for download at http://www.iris.edu/dhi/sac_dhi_request.htm,  
follow the reference to the download directory, and look for  
sac2dhi.v1.0mac.x86.tar

Subject: [SAC-HELP] KEVNM header field in alphanumeric SAC

I created an alphanumeric SAC file with the SAC software (v.101.4)
(using the commands FUNCGEN and WRITE ALPHA) and was wondering about the
first string header line (fields KSTNM & KEVNM, 8+16 chars) which seems
to be one character longer (25) than stated by the manual, see attached
screenshot "sac_alpha.png".

I then manually filled this line with a test value of
"012345670123456789ABCDEFG" and read it in with the SAC software again.
It states the KEVNM header as "012345679ABCDEFG", see attached
screenshot "sac_alpha_line23.png".
>From reading the manual I rather expected it to be "0123456789ABCDEF"
instead.

It seems the software works with a space of 1 character in the mid of KEVNM.
Is this behavior intended? If so, I think this should be pointed out
more clearly in the online manual.

it appears the message:
not found the order "setenv"

and sac can't work.

I have installed centos-5.1-x86 from VirtulBox (this Image of linux Centos V5.1) and install SAC linux 32 bit which was build in 4.5 Centos
anyway 
 
My user name is : centos 
I have edited both profile & sacinit.sh as attached then do below commands and got the result  :

 I am trying to install the latest version of sac101.4 using Cygwin.
 I have already installed the software needed for cygwin to work with sac.
 First i use the ./configure
 In the second step 'make' problems appear like

I need help to do traces stacking with SAC. For the start:
1) I have preprocessed (bandpass filtered) waveforms where I added to the
header time of the first arrival.
2) I need to clip these files (10 sec before and 10 after the first arrival
) and align them.
3) I need to stack these traces.
1) and 3) - is not a problem.

I am not sure how to handle 2). I also would like to plot all these clipped
traces on one plot.

Hi Taliana,

You can use "cut" to clip sac files, eg, "cut 10 100" will keep the
waveform between 10 sec and 100 sec. You can use "p2" to plot all the
traces on one plot.

There are library routines in the sac libraries included with the sac
download. Your best bet is to link against the library and call rsac1 or
wsac1.

Don't want to use the library? Read on...
Its basically a block of metadata (158 32-bit words) and then just a block
of floating point values. The typical method you could employ is to read the
header block, check against bit-swapping, and then read the data-only part.
You would then return the data array and header structure to your main
routine.

on this site I've posted a tutorial for basic matlab functions which mimic
sac (better just to compile SAC in a method to play nicely with matlab, but
this helps illustrate some concepts).

included in the 'functions' folder of this zip file are ones called
readsac.m, load_sac.m, and write_sac.m which I've altered slightly from the
original codes to account for bit swapping. If you're familiar with Matlab,
you could mimic the general methods of those codes for your language of
choice.

the program and data folder
and sac seems to work fine for anything else. Is it a problem with  
this sac version?

Hi Alessandro,

You need a later version of sac.  In Mac OSX 10.6 some systems calls were changed that were needed for the version of evalresp embedded in your sac.  Evalresp has been fixed to work in 10.6 and the fixes are included in later versions of sac.

I have a question about the amplitude ratios between two seismograms before and after removing the instrumental response.


Assuming that zeros and poles of these two components (S1 and S2) are coincident, their normalization factors (A1 and A2) are different, and two seismograms after deconvolution of instrumental response are represented as S1_r and S2_r. So, do we have S1_r/S2_r = S1/S2 * A2/A1???
