IRIS Videoglobe Imagery - Making Spherical Images with ImageMagick

How to wrap these realtime earthquake maps into spheres for animation.

To make a series of images of today.jpg, suitable for animation, try this: First roll the today image, wrapping left edge of rectangle around onto right, like:

   convert -roll +0+0 today.jpg today.rolled0.jpg
   convert -roll +50+0 today.jpg today.rolled50.jpg
   convert -roll +100+0 today.jpg today.rolled100.jpg
   convert -roll +150+0 today.jpg today.rolled150.jpg
   etc.

The roll amounts are pixels, not degrees!

Then use Fred Weinhaus' spherize script (according to his usage req's), like:

   spherize.sh -b none -s today.rolled0.jpg today.rolled0.sphere.jpg
   spherize.sh -b none -s today.rolled50.jpg today.rolled50.sphere.jpg
   spherize.sh -b none -s today.rolled100.jpg today.rolled100.sphere.jpg
   spherize.sh -b none -s today.rolled150.jpg today.rolled150.sphere.jpg
   etc.

You can make images like these:

All 30 images, each one has been wrapped using ImageMagick, as above.
Days advance by one, from 30 days ago to today, as earth rotates.
Times are local to IRIS DMC.
