The Department of Geology& Petroleum Geology has a long record of collaborative research directed towards understanding fundamental processes in the Earth System. Geophysics plays a crucial role in this endeavour and, as such, the department is seeking to expand the research and teaching capabilities of its growing Geophysics group via an appointment at the lecturer or senior lecturer level.

We invite applications from candidates with strong or rapidly growing research portfolios in almost any area of geophysics, including passive source seismology, active source seismology, geodynamic modelling, potential field geophysics and magnetotellurics. The University of Aberdeen lies in the hydrocarbon capital of Europe and in both teaching and research, the Department of Geology and Petroleum Geology enjoys strong links with the energy industry. As such, within the spectrum of available research funding sources, there are also excellent opportunities for engaging with commercial partners, for instance via joint industry projects or supervising industry-sponsored PhD students. The post will also support a new Masters programme in Geophysics which is part of our portfolio of higher degrees orientated towards specialist careers in the energy sector.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 7 salary scale for Lecturer (£37,756 - £45,053 per annum) and the Grade 8 salary scale for Senior Lecturer (£47,787 - £53,765 per annum) with placement according to qualifications and experience.

Should you require a visa to undertake paid employment in the UK you will be required to fulfil the minimum points criteria to be granted a Certificate of Sponsorship and Tier 2 visa. Please do not hesitate to contact Miss Deborah Marwick, (d.marwick<at>abdn.ac.uk) Assistant HR Adviser, for further information on this.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Nick Rawlinson (nrawlinson<at>abdn.ac.uk).
