Ph.D., M.S., and Postdoctoral opportunities in Geophysics in the Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Science at Florida State University

The Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Science at Florida State University seeks highly motivated M.S. and Ph.D. students to work on a broad spectrum of geophysical topics ranging from large and small earthquake processes, subduction zone process, environmental seismology, and marine geophysics. We have NSF funded seagoing projects that involve research cruise opportunities. The students will have opportunities to learn and develop cutting-edge techniques in both seismic data analysis and numerical modeling to better understand the seismic wavefield and to mitigate seismic hazards. At FSU, students and postdocs work in a collaborative environment and get exposure to a variety of expertise such as Earth’s structure, mineralogy, lithosphere dynamics, tectonics, structural geology, and oceanography in the department.

The application deadline for M.S and Ph.D. positions is January 15th, 2019. Full financial support including teaching assistantships and research assistantships will be provided for both M.S and Ph.D. students. Please check https://www.eoas.fsu.edu/grad-degrees/geology/ for detailed information. Students with B.S. or M.S. degree in geophysics, geology, engineering, physics, mathematics, or closely related fields are all welcome to apply. Applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Wenyuan Fan (wfan<at>fsu.edu) to discuss potential projects. Applicants can find more information about Dr. Fan's research at http://myweb.fsu.edu/wfan/.

The postdoc position will be a full-time one-year appointment, renewable for a second year depending on the progress and funding. The application deadline for the postdoc position is February 15th. The starting date will be flexible. Completion of a Ph.D. degree is required by the time of appointment. Application materials include a CV, a research statement, an abstract of your Ph.D. thesis, and contact information of three references. Please send the application package to Dr. Wenyuan Fan (wfan<at>fsu.edu).
