The Alaska Earthquake Center is hiring a Systems Administrator and a Scientific Software Developer to support the broad computing needs of the organization, enhance and expand the capabilities of our earthquake analysis system, and to spearhead adapting emerging research into applied, operational code.
The Alaska Earthquake Center is a cooperative environment where projects and operations are executed by well-empowered collaborative teams. The duties of the Systems Administrator include overseeing the center’s enterprise-class virtual computing environment, ensuring the reliable operation, support, backup, and upgrading of the center’s hardware and software, and supporting staff with IT needs. The duties of the Scientific Software Developer include working with other scientists and technical experts to create tools that stakeholders can rely on before, during, and after earthquakes. You will also be called upon to maintain and support existing code within the Earthquake Center’s software development framework and, on occasion, troubleshoot problems in a time-critical setting.
