Dear Colleague:

We invite you to take part in a special education and outreach session
at the upcoming EarthScope National Workshop
(http://www.iris.edu/earthscopenationalmeeting/index.php) entitled
“Bringing EarthScope Research into the Undergraduate Classroom”. The
session will focus on the use of EarthScope-related data and results in
the undergraduate science classroom. The session features a plenary
presentation by Barbara Tewksbury, (William Kenan Professor of
Geosciences, Hamilton College) entitled “From Data to Insight:
Developing Effective Undergraduate Activities Using Earthscope Data".
The plenary lecture will be followed by a focused poster session that
will allow participants to share their experiences--ranging from
tried-and-true exercises to fresh, untested new ideas--on the use of
state-of-the-art geophysical data in the classroom. We invite all
participants to contribute a poster focused on educational applications
of EarthScope science, and to bring along a lab exercise, homework
problem, or new idea for using EarthScope data in the classroom.
Computer-based and internet exercises are particularly welcome. Note
that these E&O abstracts/poster submissions may be submitted in addition
to research-oriented presentations. Details on the session are
available at
http://www.iris.edu/earthscopenationalmeeting/plenary.php#5. Note the
upcoming registration deadline of February 15. Contact Susan Eriksson
at 303-381-7466 for additional information.
