Request for Proposals: Developing a Conceptual Understanding of the
Earth via Seismic Data

To advance the mission IRIS Education and Outreach (E&O) program, the
program seeks to support universities, and other groups engaged in
K-12 seismology education by;
•	Promoting and facilitating the classroom use of educational
seismographs and seismic data
•	Developing and disseminating hands-on curricular materials and
educational services
•	Developing and delivering models of professional development that
enable teachers to use data and materials as an integral part of
their classroom instruction.

The IRIS E&O program requests proposals for projects that will
develop an integrated instructional sequence enabling teachers to
make use of seismic data, either freely available on the web and/or
data collected from local recording systems, as a meaningful part of
their instruction.

Funding in the amount of $60,000 is available for one award of one
year duration. Funding to IRIS is provided by the National Science
Foundation (NSF) through a cooperative agreement.

Proposals should be submitted by April 16, 2007.
