Forwarded Message from Robert Pockalny:

We are pleased to announce a Chief Scientist Training Cruise Opportunity
*with an emphasis on Marine Geology and Geophysics research* that will
take place in December 2016 (2 – 17 December) aboard the R/V Sikuliaq
during a transit from Honolulu, HI to San Diego, CA.

Please share with your colleagues and anyone else you think might be
interested!

The Chief Scientist Training Cruise Opportunity will include:

-a 2-day pre-cruise informational workshop on using the ship as a tool,
cruise planning and proposal writing in Honolulu, HI (29-30 November)

-phone conference planning sessions (this is pre-arrival at HI)

-move onto the ship (1 December)

-a 16-day research cruise aboard the R/V Sikuliaq (2-17 December)

-on-board presentations and demonstrations

The goal of this program is to help early-career marine scientists
(e.g., *PhD students, postdocs and new faculty*) plan and write
effective cruise proposals, plan surveys to address significant
scientific questions, execute surveys at sea, and generate at-sea cruise
reports for marine geological and geophysical research and education.

Participants will plan and execute six days of at-sea marine geophysical
research that will take advantage of the ship’s installed equipment to
address specific scientific questions identified during pre-cruise
preparations.

Travel costs, research supplies, and shipping will be paid for
participants. Space is limited. To apply you must be an employee or
student (U.S. Citizen or permanent resident) at a U.S. institution or a
U.S. citizen working abroad.

*Application deadline extended to October 7, 2016. *
