[SAC-HELP] Fwd: Body wave magnitude using SAC

Dear Amr El-Sharkawy,

Sac will do only two things to help you with
magnitude calculation:

1. Remove the instrument response to convert the trace
to ground motion (use "transfer");
2. Allow you to pick amplitude and period of the desired
wave cycle (use "plotpk").

Also, you can use the spectrogram function to see
whether an arrival on which
you want to determine a surface wave magnitude really
is part of a dispersed Rayleigh wave train.

The amplitude-distance correction (e.g. Gutenberg-Richter
for body waves, Marshall-Basham for surface waves) has to
be applied separately, outside SAC.

The IASPEI manual of seismological observatory practice
contains some general information:

http://www.iaspei.org/projects/NMSOP.html

Hoping this is useful.

Sheila Peacock,
Blacknest.

My Dear Professors and collegues
I appreciate very well if you please can tell me how to calculate the body wave magnitude and surface wave mgnitude using the SAC software
I am waiting your kind response
