Special session on high performance seismic networks at AGU 2007
Joint Assembly, 22-25 May 2007, Acapulco

Announcing a special AGU session on operating high performance
seismic networks at the 2007 Joint Assembly, being held 22-25 May
2007, in Acapulco, Mexico. The deadline of abstract submissions is
March 1, 2007.

Session Title:
Operating High Performance Seismic Networks – Challenges and Tools

Session Description:
A number of national, regional and global seismic networks have set
high targets for operational performance. These targets may include
station uptime, network average uptime, percent data availability in
near-real time, and product availability or dissemination targets.
Examples are the Global Seismographic Network (GSN), the
International Monitoring System of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty
Organization (IMS), the Transportable Array (TA) of the USArray
element of the Earthscope facility, the Backbone National Network of
the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS), as well as networks
operated by the U.S. Air Force and the national networks of several
countries. This session is envisioned as an opportunity for network
operators, managers and technical staff to gather and share
expertise, tools and strategies for maintaining high-performance
seismic networks. While many of these networks have different mission
goals and use a variety of different data formats, hardware and
software, all share the goals of high data recovery, operational and
cost efficiency, and quality customer service. Many have developed
tools and strategies for achieving these goals, and the planning
assumption for the session will be that all participants will benefit
from sharing information and expertise.
