OBSIP user community,

The OBSIP Oversight Committee--tasked with representing the user
community of the OBSIP facility--is in the process of developing a
strategic plan for OBSIP.The plan will include science objectives and
instrumentation needs.

This topic will be discussed at the upcoming OBSIP Symposium
(http://www.obsip.org/about/2015-obs-symposium/).If you will be
attending the meeting you will have an opportunity to provide input in
the two forums described below. If you will not be at the meeting, please
still consider providing input. You could stimulate a colleague who is
attending to present a pop-up, and/or you can send one-pagers/comments
to a member of the oversight committee (listed below).

Forum 1. OBSIP science objectives and conceptual experiments. We are
inviting pop-up (~5 min) presentations at the meeting to talk about
science goals and experiment needs.Conceptual experiment designs will be
particularly helpful to feed Forum 2 (below). Please email
rallen at berkeley.edu if you would like to present. One-page summaries are
also welcome in advance and will be posted on the meeting website.

Forum 2. Functional specifications for the future OBSIP instrument
pool.Input is needed on the types and capabilities of the future
instrument pool.Attached is an initial DRAFT list of functional
specifications, also availableon the OBSIP website
<http://www.obsip.org/instruments/functional-specifications/>.These will
be discussed at the meeting. Harm Van Avendonk will lead the discussion
of short-period instrument needs (harm at ig.utexas.edu) and Monica Kohler
will lead the discussion of broadband instrument needs
(kohler at caltech.edu). It is helpful to tie the specification to science
goals (Forum 1).

Thank you in advance for your input,

Richard Allen, on behalf of the OBSIP Oversight Committee
