Just got this for a request that I am pretty sure should have data. At least the data is there in the IRIS_DataCenter DHI service. Is there a problem with the dataselect web service? thanks Philip http://www.iris.edu/ws/dataselect/query?net=CO&sta=JSC&loc=00&cha=HHZ&start=2011-08-23T17.50.00&end=2010-02-27T17.60.00&quality=B&ref=direct HTTP Error 404: Not Found The dataselect webservice was unable to find any data for your request: unable to find data for: CO.JSC.00.HHZ.2011.235.17.50.00.0… [more]

Hello WS users, The DMC is pleased to announce a new release of our ws-station service available here: http://www.iris.edu/ws/station/ Today's version 1.2.7 release addresses many small issues revealed in the previous 1.2.5 release, please review the changes here: http://www.iris.edu/ws/doc/station_revisions.htm Some of the changes might effect users that have written their own client software, in particular error messages are now returned as simple text instead of XML. This release will n… [more]

Hi. The query http://www.iris.edu/ws/station/query?updatedafter=2011-06-06&level=sta&net=ND&timewindow=2010-01-01,2500-12-12 returns multiple duplicates of the <StationEpoch> sections for each station. Makes my sync to a local copy procedure very slow... Thanks! -- John

Hi. This request: http://www.iris.edu/ws/station/query?updatedafter=2011-11-07&level=resp&net=XM&sta=WM01&timewindow=2010-01-01,2500-12-12 returns a <StaMessage><Network><Station>... hierarchy. This request: http://www.iris.edu/ws/station/query?updatedafter=2011-06-06&level=sta&net=XM&timewindow=2010-01-01,2500-12-12 returns a <StaMessage><Station> hierarchy, with no <Network> level. This seems inconsistent -- the <Network> tag should either be there or not, but shouldn't disappear between l… [more]

I think this is also invalid as the <type> is restricted to an enum of fixed strings, so appending the numerical region to it is invalid. That said, I think having the region number as opposed to just the text name is very valuable. Perhaps you could use the eventParameters_foreign-attributes or eventParameters_foreign-elements to add the number? Hi I am having trouble validating the quakeml output from the event web service. Have you been able to validate it to make sure it matches the relaxng or xschema definitions of QuakeML? The first problem is that in the schema definition the top level <quakeml> element is in the "http://quakeml.org/xmlns/quakeml/1.2" namespace, while the <eventParameters> and all of the elements inside it are in the "http://quakeml.org/xmlns/bed/1.2" namespace. The output from the web service trys to put all o… [more]

Hi The defaults on the URL builder for the event web service are to get a whole years worth of events with no min magnitude. I would never be so dumb as to click on that link, or at least I won't admit to it! But if someone does then bad things start to happen like firefox locking up, fans turning on and general laptop unhappiness. I am guessing that your database is also probably not too happy about pulling every event from the last year out of the database and stuffing it into xml for no goo… [more]

The revision history for the event service is somewhat empty, although I guess seeing that you are running version X.X is somewhat interesting! :) http://www.iris.edu/ws/doc/event_revisions.htm This page is also missing a few services, including the event one. http://www.iris.edu/ws/doc/ This page seem to not have style info associated with it. It also has a bad link in the breadcrumbs, pointing to /hq/ws instead of /ws. http://www.iris.edu/ws/flinnengdahl There appear to be two different na… [more]

Hi The QuakeML schema seems to be on a https site that has an invalid certificate (both no issuer chain and is expired). I know that I can bypass this and still get the schema file, but it is a little disturbing. It seems to me that the schema for something that is supposed to be an open standard that IRIS is supporting should be available in a more public and easily accessible way. In particular, this https with expired certificate makes it harder to write a client that will pull the schema f… [more]

Hi Is there a reason to have both stations and networks directly in a StaMessage in StationXML? It adds some complexity to the parsing on the client side to have to deal with two cases. As the network element is really lightweight, with only the code attribute being required, so why not require all stations be inside Network elements? I am not sure having "naked stations" really buys much other than backwards compatibility, and so I would argue against it. Is there some other reason that I am … [more]

Just to follow up on the phone call yesterday, the station web service appears not to allow a "time" section within a date currently. <Response><Status><code>400</code></Status><message>Invalid date format </message><request>http://www.iris.edu/ws/station/query?net=IU&sta=ANMO&timewindow=2010-12-09T12:00:00,2010-12-09T12:10:00&level=sta </request></Response> thanks, Philip
